WEEK 12 November 9 - 13

HOMEWORK and In-Class Due Friday November 13:

Create a double-page spread using 3-5 images from the Everyday Images* folders in the Image catalog. Create an opening page for the story, Include one ad that you make yourself.

HEADLINE:

Home for the Holidays, Christmas During the Great Recession

SPECS:

Magazine Size 8.5" x 11" Size of columns and margins your choice

HOMEWORK:

Include the following techniques and elements:

    • Type on a path
    • Silhouette with "polygon" (multi-sided) outline
    • Text wrap
    • Master Pages
    • Auto-page numbering (headers or footers)
    • Create several character styles
    • Use a drop cap and paragraph styles
    • create one section of the layout that has a "bleed"

*These images already have the path created in Photoshop and will work with
Text Wrap with a polygon outline

FINAL PROJECT : To be started in class Friday November 13.
DUE NO LATER THAN MONDAY NOVEMBER 23 at beginning of Class,absolutely no printing during class. Come prepared.

PART ONE

Design your own Magazine Logo. Using this logo, create a postcard that goes with the magazine, either a promotional postcard OR a subscription card. Research real magazine cards.

PART TWO

Design your own Magazine covers. Front cover and back ad. (see below)

  • Use a size based on existing magazine format. Use an actual magazine to measure it out.
  • Use full bleeds.
  • Think: attention getting BUT believable.
  • Cover: Headlines, what's inside (point to page numbers)
  • Back of Magazine Cover... create an advertisement.
  • Subject of ad to relate subject of magazine
  • Use full bleed.

PART THREE

Design your own Magazine spreads (see below)
  • Design two completely different full page spreads.
  • Articles should relate to magazine topic. Create believable headlines.
  • Use a grid in your Master Page layout for at least one of the spreads.
  • Use a bleed on at least one page.
  • Use placeholder text for body.
  • Use style sheet for copy
  • Please reference the source for your images with a small caption
    ( i.e. "Photo by Jane Smith © 2007")

NO EXCEPTIONS.

PREPARE FOR THE INEVITABLE PRINTER BACK-UP and BREAKDOWN > > > don't leave printing and assembling for the last minute.

FINAL REQUIREMENTS

A) Submit printed piece. Must be presentation worthy:

  • cover photo-quality paper
  • Spine neatly put together with either clear tape and staples
  • pages either glued together with a non-wrinkling glue, or double sided print.
