The Site Development Process

Project Three:

Design a Web Site Homepage
and Social Network Interface
for Environmentally Concious People

CONCEPT :

The client, Tiny Green Footprints NY is an imaginary organization that wants to create a website listing local resources for clean energy, CSAs, non-goverment environmental groups etc. Included in this website will be a page for a community or 'social network' .

Your job as a designer is to create the following three pages:

1. a working homepage
2. one working resource page
3. a community or social networkpage

The Site Development Process

I. Conceptualize and Research

Spend 1-2 hours researching other environmental sites, and see what other organizations have created.

II. Create and Organize Content

Collect links for the resources site and collect a few araticles (must cite the source)

III. Develop the "look and feel"

1. Photoshop layout

Create a simple logo and color scheme/layout in Photoshop that will be used throughout both the website and community page.

The logo can either be a gif, png or an animated gif.

The Logo is due Friday April 2 at 12 noon. Please and e-mail to me by Friday noon time using either Angel or pearlmad@sunyulster.edu

The homepage layout should be started by Friday, and continued on through the week of April and due on Monday April 5 in Photoshop layers.

Monday's class will continue DHTML (Layers in Dreamweaver 8, AP Divs in CS3 and CS4)

3. CSS
4. Home page
5. Template for interior pages
6. Additional "bells & whistles"

IV. Produce a working prototype

    1. From Template, create XHTML pages
    2. optimize and insert photos
    3. Fix typos, broken links

V. Test it

    1. On PC and Mac, on IE, Firefox, Safari, Opera and other browsers
    2. Fix typos, broken links

VI. Launch the site

VII. Maintain site (client responsibility)
