assignment week two
< last

IN CLASS:
- Introduction to 3D Fundamentals: Line, Plane, Volume.
- Short problems with planes & volumes
(personal object
- discussion
of planar sculpture
Concept: You have a sheet of card.
Your objective is to turn this flat
plane into an interesting 3-Dimensional volume.
Instructions:
- You may use more than one sheet of card
- You may change the shape of the card with
your hands or any suitable
tool
- You may not use any adhesives, tapes, staples. Any connections you
choose to make must be without additional materials
- Your finished design must be 3-Dimensional & can be presented
on a surface (e.g. table), on the wall, or hanging in space
THINK ABOUT THIS:
- What do you think an “interesting” 3D design would be and why?
- What kind of shapes can I make? What qualities would they have?
- What kind of tools can I use to make shapes?
- What kind of connections can I make without glue, tape, or staples?
- What would be the best way to present this design (on a horizontal
surface, on the wall, hanging)?
- Is there more than one solution to this problem?
- Am I going to give this my full attention or am I going to take the
easiest solution and put the least amount of time into it?
IN YOUR SKETCHBOOK:
- Sketch out some ideas from your experimentations
- Sketch out other display solutions: how would it appear on a surface,
wall or hanging from the ceiling?
In addition:
If not completed in class: record Monday’s efforts: draw your personal
object and it’s accompanying volume created in class.
