linear materials.

1/25 WEEK 2
BEGIN PROJECT 1: THE BODY: LINES/PLANES/VOLUMES: Generate line drawings of your arm & hands with contour, gestural, structural, and mechanical line, and translate those 1D lines into 2D planes & 3D volumes with linear materials (white card). Finally, creating a drawing based on the 3D sculpture.
- Slides & discussion of linear sculpture & drawings, & the boundaries between 1D, 2D & 3D.

2/1 WEEK 3

PROJECT 2: THE BODY: LINE/PLANE/VOLUME/SCALE: Based on a line drawing of the human head by a famous artist, create a life-size linear wire sculpture that copies & interprets the line drawing of a head, changing the scale x2.

PROJECT 3: THE BODY: TEXTURE TRANSFORMATION: Locate a “found” 3D object that is connected to the human body by form, function, or association (e.g. clothing, shoes, equipment, appliances, etc.) Alter the surface of this object significantly with another material, changing the texture and transforming the object to give it a whole new visual & conceptual identity.

4/12 WEEK 13 PROJECT 4: THE BODY: PLANE/VOLUME/GEOMETRIC ABSTRACTION: Research & sketch shapes from human or animal anatomy, translate and abstract them into geometric planes and volumes. Analyze the main concepts of Cubism, Constructivism, Futurism, and the Bauhaus and allow the main visual concepts from these movements to influence your 3D design. Use simple planar materials, and color systems based on color theory learned in 2D design class.
- Slides & discussion of Geometric Abstraction in sculpture & 3-D Design.
